Dr. Philipp has been working professionally in the helping profession since 1990 when he began working as social worker for Koinonia Foster Homes, Inc. At Koinonia, Dr. Philipp became District Administrator making him responsible for social worker supervision, foster family supervision and training, foster child placement, and social work care for foster children. During his work with foster families, he became aware that children were not receiving the psychological assessments they required. As a result, Dr. Philipp returned to school to complete a doctoral degree in psychology. His doctoral dissertation addressed the assessment of foster parents. Dr. Philipp did his predoctoral internships at Valley Psychological Center where he focused on psychological assessment and at Heritage Oaks Hospital, where he focused on counseling inpatient and day treatment patients. His license as a clinical psychologist was completed in 2001. 

Dr. Philipp has been an instructor at several graduate schools. Beginning in 1990, he participated as a substitute instructor at the Los Gatos campus of Western Seminary. From 2000 until 2005, Dr. Philipp taught psychodiagnostic assessment for doctoral students at Alliant University and The Professional School of Psychology. Currently, Dr. Philipp is teaching at the Sacramento campus of Western Seminary where his masters level counseling courses include Human Life Span Development, Tests and Measurements, Research in Family Studies, and Psychopathology. He also participates in teaching two classes for the ministerial students at Western Seminary. These are Developing Strong Families, and Discovering and Developing Your Ministry Potential.

Dr. Philipp obtains continuing education in excess of State of California licensing requirements. His specialized education includes the John Gottman approach to marriage counseling. Dr. Philipp has also completed specialized education in clinical hypnotherapy from the Erickson Foundation. He has many hours of continuing education in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric and adult Bipolar disorder. He has received additional education in the identification, diagnosis, and treatment of autistic spectrum disorders with an emphasis on Asperger's Disorder. Dr. Philipp has completed level 1 and 2 training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  Most recently, Dr. Philipp has completed training in biofeedback and neurofeedback and has completed certification in neurofeedback and quantitative electro-encephalography. Dr. Philipp's clinical practice consists of children, adolescents, and adults. He works with a broad range of problems including anxiety, depression, Bipolar Disorder, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PRSD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), marriage problems, phase of life difficulties, and spiritual development.
